OK, done that - What next? HELP !!
Published on July 3, 2005 By JAYdd In ObjectDock
Ok, I've only been skinning for a short while, (WB Skins), & thought it was about time I turned my attentions to Objectdock.

I've never used object dock before & at the risk of making myself look like a complete 'Plonka!', I have a couple of questions I need to put to the community.

1 : How do you make or import new backgrounds for your dock? when you go into the appearance window & drop the selections it doesn't give you the option to import or create an alternative background.

2 : In Objectdock plus it states 'click on link & Download the Docklet SDK to create your own docklets'. Ok, Ive done that & downloaded the zip file.

problem is, this zip doesn't contain any executable .exe files so where do I unzip the folders to & what do I do next to start making docklets?

You create backgrounds with an image editor, and a text editor. Open one in your Backgrounds folder and have a look. There are some basic instructions in the ObjectDock folder (SkinningTheDock.txt).

To add new backgrounds, you simply extract the downloads to the Backgrounds folder.

The SDK should be unzipped to the Docklets folder. You'll need a working knowledge of scripting to create docklets.

Thankyou Koasati, I found the 'skinningTheDock.txt' almost straight after I had made the forum post... DOH!

Thanks for the reply, I can now sit down & make a complete mess of 'Object dock'

That's only if you have a development system like C++. What you have are all the source files needed to make a DLL that OD will recognie as a plugin.

A much easier way to make docklets is with SysStats http://www.dockex.com/?pageId=docklets&dkview=38 and an update here: http://sysstats.needlemen.com/

There are also quite a lot of ready-made docklets for SysStats at DockEx and WinCustomize.

Thanks for your post Chris TH,

I'll have a good look at the sysstats link as soon as I manage to get some time off work..
